The Inspiring Journey Of Rod Hopkins Sr.
Rod Hopkins Sr., a lifelong resident of Burnett County and World War II veteran, returned home in January 1946 and discovered a business opportunity in gravel while chatting with farmers at the C & S Cafe. He purchased a dump truck and two shovels to start selling gravel from his parents' property, marking the beginning of Hopkins Sand & Gravel. In the early 1960s, he expanded the business to include ready-mixed concrete by acquiring a 1-yard batch plant, loading trucks by hand. Over the years, the company grew and opened two additional locations in Minong, WI, and Pine City, MN. Rod's eldest son Roderick purchased Hopkins Sand & Gravel in the early 90's. Today, we are proudly beginning our 4th generation of family owned and operated Hopkins Sand & Gravel.
